Cost comparison
Roof measurement cost comparison by pricing model, on your own numbers
Vendors bill in different ways: per report, a platform plus reports, a subscription, per project or a free plan. Enter what you pay today and see a year of measuring both ways. This page is written by RoofStruct, which makes one of these tools.
The short answer
- There are five common ways to pay for a roof measurement: per delivered report, a platform plan with pay-as-you-go reports, a subscription with unlimited DIY measuring, per-project capture, and a free self-serve plan.
- The pricing model matters as much as the price. What decides it is how many roofs you measure, not how many you win.
- Paying per report fits claim files and the occasional job. Measuring yourself fits a high bid volume on roofs that are clear on the imagery.
- Dated prices live in our linked articles, so they're updated in one place. The calculator below uses your numbers, not ours.
Five ways to pay for a roof measurement
Each pricing model, the tools that use it and the work it fits, described in words. We did not run side-by-side accuracy tests. The dated prices are in the articles linked below.
| Pricing model | How you pay | Example tools (Oct 2026) | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pay per delivered report | Each roof you order; no subscription needed | EagleView, GAF QuickMeasure, RoofOrders | Claim files and occasional reports |
| Platform with pay-as-you-go reports | Free or paid platform plan, plus each report | Roofr, an all-in-one platform with CRM, proposals and payments | Running lead to payment in one system |
| Subscription with unlimited DIY measuring | Monthly or yearly; ordered reports cost extra | RoofSnap (per user), iRoofing (flat rate for 3 users) | Daily in-house measuring and estimating |
| Per-project capture | Each project; optional annual plans | Hover (phone scan or blueprint) | Crews already at the property |
| Free self-serve plan | Free measuring and PDF; Pro and ordered reports paid | RoofStruct (we make it) | Many bids, many roofs you won't win |
How to run the math
Start with roofs measured, not roofs won. Every bid needs a measurement, so a per-report fee lands on the jobs that walk as well as the ones that close.
Add up a month: reports ordered times the price per report, plus any platform plan or subscription. Multiply by 12 for the year. Divide by the roofs you measured to get a cost per roof, and by the jobs you won to see the measurement cost each sale carries.
Then run it the other way. Decide what share of those roofs you would still order as a paid report, because the imagery is hard, a claim needs one or you don't have time to trace. Price those, add the plan you'd pay for, and compare the two years.
Count your time. Measuring yourself costs nothing in cash but takes your trace time on each roof. The fair comparison is your time on that roof against the report price.
Where paying per report is the right call
If a claim file needs a report someone else measured, or an ESX file for Xactimate, a delivered report is the job. EagleView's reports come with ESX files, and Roofr and Hover also list ESX files (vendor pages, Oct 2026).
If you measure a few roofs a month, a per-report fee with no subscription keeps it simple. Some vendors build for speed: GAF lists delivery in under an hour for single-family reports (per GAF, Oct 2026). If you want CRM, proposals, payments and material ordering under one login, Roofr bills reports on top of its platform plan, so count both.
On hard roofs, with heavy tree cover, deep shadow or many facets, an ordered report can be worth more than your time. Imagery can misread pitch on steep, cut-up roofs. That is inherent to imagery, ours included.
Where the prices are
This page has no prices on purpose. Vendors change them often, so we keep the dated figures for each vendor in one article: EagleView, Roofr and GAF QuickMeasure in our three-way comparison, RoofSnap, iRoofing and Hover in our measurement software roundup, and RoofOrders in our guide to what a measurement report costs.
Before you decide, read each price on the vendor's own page and check the add-ons. ESX files, obstructions, secondary structures and rush delivery are often billed on top of the base report. RoofStruct's own prices are on our pricing page.
What measuring it yourself covers
RoofStruct's free plan gives you free, unlimited self-serve measuring and PDF reports, no card, on satellite imagery or your own drone or phone photo, in minutes. The full PDF carries RoofStruct branding. The Cost & Takeoff worksheet and water-flow analysis are on every plan.
Pro adds branded Good/Better/Best estimates with e-signature, the Material Order Builder with Smart Waste, CSV, XLSX, JSON and DXF exports, your logo and colors, and up to 5 team members.
When you'd rather not trace, order a done-for-you report in the app. A technician measures it and a second one checks it, usually delivered within 4 hours (turnaround varies with volume and complexity). ESX sketch orders are geometry only and open in your own Xactimate. RoofStruct isn't affiliated with Verisk.
Common questions about roof measurement costs
- How much does a roof measurement report cost?
- It depends on the vendor, the roof type and the pricing model. Expect a commercial report to cost more than a residential one, and add-ons are often extra. Dated prices are in our guide to report costs and our EagleView, Roofr and GAF QuickMeasure comparison.
- Is a subscription cheaper than paying per report?
- Only past a certain volume. Divide the yearly subscription by the reports you would otherwise buy to find your break-even, then check what the subscription includes. The calculator above runs that on your numbers.
- Should I count roofs measured or roofs won?
- Measured. Every bid needs a measurement, so a per-report model also charges for the roofs that walk. Divide the year's measurement cost by the jobs you won to see what each sale carries.
- Is measuring a roof yourself really free?
- On RoofStruct, self-serve measuring and the PDF are free and unlimited, with no card. You spend your own time on the trace. Done-for-you reports, Pro estimates and material orders are paid.
- Why doesn't this page list prices?
- Prices change often. We keep each vendor's dated figures in one article so they're updated together, and we link those articles below.
