Questions about roof pitch

What is roof pitch?
Pitch is how steep a roof is: how many inches it rises for every 12 inches it runs. A 6/12 roof rises 6 inches per foot. It also changes the real roof area — a 12/12 roof has about 41% more surface than its footprint.
How accurate is it?
Usually within one pitch step when you look straight at a gable end and zoom in. Angled views, trees and old Street View photos make it harder — measure on site when the pitch decides the job.
Is it free?
